USAFA Graduation - the actual Graduation Ceremony

It started off as a pretty cold day but ended beautifully - so much so that many of us have red noses today! Alex's fan club consisted of 40 some of our friends and family and one proud little girl in a blue and white tutu!

Bundled up in the stands

Lined up, waiting to enter the stadium

Alex's fan club filled the top row and some.

Marching in

Lining up with his squadron. Alex is the fifth one from the right.

Alex performing his "illegal" shenanigans on stage

Hugging the girl from his squadron who graduated before him (it was Erin Green, Uncle Joe's brother's niece)

Alex stayed up to hug the rest of the seniors in his squadron
He chest bumped one of the guys and the picture made the CO Springs newspaper. Chest-bumping is also an "illegal shenanigan"

When they were dismissed, they all tossed their hats in the air and....

at the exact same time the Thunder Birds flew over the stadium.

For the next 20 minutes they did a sweet air show. It really made for an exciting ending!

Yes that's upside down in formation

Another proud mama moment

An emotional moment

Mr Kirby prayed for Alex all through his time at the Academy, along with so many other wonderful friends!

Grace's special shirt - the front said "My uncle is..."

Alex and his roommate Kevin

Julia got to run onto the field and get this hat (kids age 7-10 get to catch the hats the graduates throw, many have $11 in  them for the class of '11)

We had a tailgate afterwards to wait out the traffic.

P.S. Shiying gets the photo credits for most of the pictures from the commissioning and Will took almost all of the pictures of graduation. I had rented a great 70-300mm lens - that's how we got such clear shots from up high in the stadium.
