Laundry Tip

Laundry is kind of my nemesis these days (we haven't had a working dryer in over a month now!). So instead of getting bitter, I thought I would look at the brighter side and blog about an awesome trick I just learned on getting stains out. I wish I could find the actual website this tip was from so I could credit the right people, but unfortunately it was awhile ago and it's no longer in my history.

Anyway, for tough stains and especially for when colors bleed, heat up a pot of water to almost boiling (Zane calls this the cauldron). Then add 1/4 cup or so of your stain remover of choice (I've used color-safe bleach, oxi clean and regular bleach depending on the severity of the stain). Dip the stained part of the clothing (or the entire thing) into the solution and literally watch the spot(s) disappear before your eyes in a matter of seconds. Rinse immediately with cold water and wash as normal.

I'm telling you, this trick has worked miracles for me! I had a pair of Grace's red pants bleed onto a sweater and a white shirt and both are as good as new. Those ugly marks along Grace's necklines from all the food that slips under the bib...gone! I even used regular bleach to get the pink tint out of a onesie that had some of its embroidery bleed and the onesie is white again while the colors of the embroidery didn't dull. I think the boiling water increases the effectiveness of the stain-remover and the fact that you only keep the piece of clothing in the solution for a few seconds, minutes tops, keeps the rest of the colors from dulling.

We may not have dry clothes, but at least they are clean! :o)
